These interconnected issues profoundly impact the lives of Somalis, perpetuating cycles of poverty and conflict. To address these challenges, there is a critical need for social and behavioral change (SBC) within Somali society. SBC is vital in Somalia/Somaliland, particularly in light of pressing health concerns, such as high maternal and child mortality rates and the prevalence of infectious diseases. SBC initiatives can effectively promote better hygiene practices, increase vaccination rates, and improve nutrition, leading to significant enhancements in public health outcomes. Furthermore, tailoring SBC programs to local cultural contexts is essential for fostering community acceptance and participation. By engaging with communities in ways that resonate with their values and beliefs, SBC can create a sense of ownership and commitment to positive change. Empowering individuals—especially women and youth—through education and awareness enables them to make informed decisions and advocate for their rights, ultimately contributing to more equitable and resilient communities.
